The food service on basis is a European company, and most of the dishes are meant to cater to the tastes of our NATO allies. Breakfast is almost uniformly awful--runny eggs, strange glutinous substances, fried ham vice bacon, and so on--but the coffee is something of a redemption, especially when combined with a care package Pop Tart (Chocolate Frosted, if you're so inclined. . .) Lunch and dinner, however, have been very pleasurable thus far. Though some of the more redneck members of the American contingent insist that I'll get sick of the cuisine soon, I find the varieties of curry and European dishes, with occasional servings of pizza or fried thin steaks, to be tasty and healthy. One of my favorite lunches is spaetzle with butter covered with beef stroganoff. That meal is rounded out by a buttered slice of whole grain bread bread, a bowl of sliced cucumbers drizzled with a runny sort of yogurt dressing. My lunch beverage of choice is nothing other than the drink of astronauts: orange TANG. TANG got me through five summers in China and a few semesters in college, so it's good enough for me.
