The Army drill sergeants who are helping to train us can be pretty funny some time. Certainly, all of the lingo that they have sounds funny at first. For instance, "full battle rattle" is not a toy for a child. Here are some photos of me with my IBA (Individual Body Armor), Kevlar helmet, full pads, and all weapons (M-16 and M9).
There's a lot to pay attention to on a regular basis here. Now that we've been issued weapons, they go with us everywhere, but we only have them loaded (blanks only at this time) when we are outside. Consequently, we have to "clear" our weapons every time we enter a classroom, mess hall, or berthing.
All of this gear is heavy. . . and hot! However, you do feel pretty indestructible in it and can bounce around fairly easily. They'll test that tomorrow when we do a rollover test in a Humvee simulator. Fun stuff :)
